Wedding at Dunans Wedding at Dunans

Posted by Charles Dixon-Spain on

Love is in the air, among the bluebells and the rhododendrons at Dunans. If you are thinking that we might have the perfect venue for your celebration then please check out the photos of our Early May wedding. The happy couple's photographs show just how stunning a back-drop the policies are at Dunans. Photographer Bruce Mackenzie captured some really stylish images of the happy couple, and showed the castle and grounds off to stunning advantage. We wanted to share some more of the images of our happy couple's big day this early May Bank Holiday – it was all so romantic,...

Charles Recommends The Conservation Plan for All New Lairds and Ladies Charles Recommends The Conservation Plan for All New Lairds and Ladies

Posted by Charles Dixon-Spain on

If you want to know more about Dunans and the project to restore both the castle and the bridge, then the Conservation Plan, published in 2014 has all the detail you could ask for, including the history of Dunans, its heraldry and a full condition survey from 2013. Charles recommends the book as the definitive account of Dunans Castle from 1590 to the present day, especially if you are unable to visit to learn about the project firsthand. For more information on the project and our efforts to restore the castle you can watch our videos here -> https://youtube.com/@CharlesDixonSpain

#Instagram #Live for #AIP #Jammers: Repairing #DunansBridge and #DunansCastle

Posted by Dixon-Spain on

This week I was asked to update the Adventures in Preservation Volunteers (or jammers) on our projects for 2021, so on Friday at 5pm I livestreamed from the bridge and then took my viewers on a short walk to the castle to give them a flavour of what the project would consist next year. Graphic and product design has always been a passion of mine, particularly in relation to restoring Dunans (of course!). Our new red boxes are spectacularly lovely, and I just wanted to share the design (and the rest of the package) which includes a square foot of the castle itself. If we can sell every square … Continue reading Packaging ScottishLaird’s Most Prestigious Decorative Title

Dunans Castle Clearance Continues in Kitchen & Library: More Images Dunans Castle Clearance Continues in Kitchen & Library: More Images

Posted by Anne MacPhail on

The clearance of the back two compartments of the castle has taken much longer than the others, simply because they aren’t accessible by the minidigger and there’s not enough room for more than a couple of workers. Our luck continues with the floors, which are all concrete, making clearance much much easier than suspended floors. … Continue reading Dunans Castle Clearance Continues in Kitchen & Library: More Images

Extraordinary Ecosystem change: Can Pine Martens control Grey Squirrels to the benefit of the Reds?

Posted by Dixon-Spain on

Another one of those thought-provoking ecosystem observations, this time from Ireland, which if taken up could see the grey tree rats exiled from these islands altogether. I kid you not! http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jan/30/how-to-eradicate-grey-squirrels-without-firing-a-shot-pine-martens Something perhaps to consider and debate with the community forest at Stronafian … Should it be Grey or Gray – given the source of … Continue reading Extraordinary Ecosystem change: Can Pine Martens control Grey Squirrels to the benefit of the Reds?

Landslip at Dunans: Ravine path closed, repairs imminent!

Posted by Dixon-Spain on

This winter has been very hard on the grounds at Dunans. We’ve seen so much intense rainfall that the paths, like last year, are a quagmire. Some relief was afforded by the freeze of last week, but the problem is deep-seated and is about what is happening to the climate overall. In early January the … Continue reading Landslip at Dunans: Ravine path closed, repairs imminent!

GMGeomatics reported last week, and these are the results. I think you will agree that the detail here is astounding! I’ve included the legend to ensure you get all the detail. This last week, the team behind the castle renovation, particularly Robin Kent Architecture and Conservation has issued the tender for the clearance and consolidation of the castle.
